"Honestly, Sabor, what do you smell~?"
Koneko and Sabor padded through the growths of the forest, the former confused on her newfound companion's motives. She could not tell whether or not he was hunting; every time they hunted, they hunted seperately, bringing in their own kill to share--Koneko usually brought in the smaller prey, such as rabbits or squirrels, while Sabor brought in the occasional deer. But since yesterday, when Koneko had captured Sabor, he had been leading her through the forest.
Perhaps he smells another human? Koneko thought wonderingly. That would be delightful. It's about time I met someone of my own species... she continued whittling a piece of wood with no discernable shape or form with her bone-dagger; she had no shop skills in her old town, and she still didn't in this strange wilderness, but it at least gave her something to do while Sabor was out traipsing in his strange way.
Koneko actually liked Sabor. The gruff, rather vicious dire wolf was lovable in her exotic eyes. He was difficult at times, but he had no objections to her lying next to him as she slept in the cold, and he was pleased whenever they reunited after the day's hunting. If anything, they were on a neutrality, but it seemed more affectionate on their parts than both of them would admit (sans Koneko).
Sabor darted off through the trees. Koneko sighed helplessly and flopped down underneath one of the large trees of the strange forest. Koneko got a pleasant vibe whenever she was in these forests; it was as if a veil of tranquility settled down over her as soon as she stepped foot within them. The feeling made her smile even wider, showing her white teeth. It contrasted to the strange, hunted feeling she got when visiting other parts of the forest. The feeling was either exaggerated, instictive, or paranoid; Koneko could not be sure. Perhaps she needed to get used to it.
Sabor returned, his jaws salivating as he carried a dead squirrel and dropped it at his paws a few feet away from her, looking pointedly at her.
"What am I supposed to do with that, love?" Koneko laughed, looking at the dead and now ripped-open mammal. "It's raw. I'll just find some berries or something..." As Sabor began to eat his prize, Koneko brushed aside her crooked ebony bangs and searched on her hands and knees through the brush. Weren't there fruits or vegetables around here?! She'd had to eat berries for the past two days, and she didn't even know whether or not they were poisonous...probably not. They even tasted good. But Koneko knew she needed meat soon--her inability to start fire with the raw materials did not help. Hhmph. Isn't there someone else around here? Koneko thought helplessly, allowing herself to become the damsel in distress for that one moment.

It had been almost two weeks sense Jakket had left Aurora and Zeke. In all honesty Jakket missed them -- both of them -- but she would never admit or show it. She also knew though that her friends -- a term she used loosely -- were most likely self centered and assumed they were why she left. There was so much more behind her meaning of leaving. Perhaps she, too, was self centered.
She had managed to survive on berries and fruits and twice had some come across some meat already killed. Jakket had learned long ago how to make fires to keep warm -- but with human trash and such in abundance to do so -- but with a little bit of practice Jakket learned to make a fire for herself to keep warm at night. Jakket was now extremely skinny and she felt constantly sick. Her head burned and her cut on her knee was extremely red. She couldn't always keep it clean because she wasn't always near water. Foolishly Jakket moved forward every day. She did not spend more than a day in any place.
"You're killing yourself," Jakket muttered to herself as she walked on. She was thirsty and hadn't had a drink in almost a day and a half, nor had she eaten in two days. Ever sense she had found her way into the forest -- a place she knew better than the rain forest -- she had come across less food. This was extremely odd sense she had grown up in the forest such as this. But Jakket also had to remind herself that living out there she had her parents to make sure she was fed... here she was on her own.
Suddenly her tired eyes fell on something of a different shade than everything else. Most everything was green and lush but she noticed specks of purple or blue in a bush approximately 20 feet away. Jakket rushed over to the bush and saw what she had hopped for -- berries! And not just any berries but blue berries. She had spent countless summers picking them for her mother. She took a handful of them after scanning the area around her for danger and then shoved them in her mouth. They weren't as good as she remembered but they were still tasty -- filled with juice and substance to fill her stomach.
"Uhhhh!" Jakket doubled over and grunted in pain. Her stomach wanted to accept the food but it also tried to reject it. She felt instantly nacious as she tried to eat. She had to prop herself up against a tree that was near the bush and hold herself as her stomach attempted to regurgitate what she had swallowed so far. Jakket stood there looking like she was trying to hack up something for about five minutes before her stomach settled and accepted what she had ate. She breathed in and then spit fiercely at the roots of the tree. Jakket sighed and grabbed her stomach.
"Uhh, Ce n'était pas la bonne," Jakket muttered in her native tongue which roughly translated to that was not good -- and that was for sure an understatement. The feeling was horrible and painful. Jakket didn't dare to eat anymore but she did take her shirt and wrap a bunch of the berries inside of it. She knew it could be awhile before she would eat again so she made sure to grab a bunch. After wrapping them up she looked around her in decision of which way to go next.

Koneko was still on her hands and knees, searching through the brush, when she heard rustling through another bush a few feet over. Assuming it was a rabbit, or Sabor hunting, Koneko continued ravaging. She came upon a patch of berries--she had no idea what kind they were, she had fallen asleep during the agriculture portion of earth science--but they were a crimson color, which resembled raspberries. Koneko's strange eyes lit up immediately. Oooh~ Salmonberries! They would grow in large clumps near her house when she lived in Alaska. They tasted a bit bitter to her at the time, but Koneko knew she would have to stomach it.
After days of eating sour berries and fruits that tasted like a crayon sandwich, these salmonberries were a blessing. "Mmm~ Oh, lovie Sabor, these are delicious...." That was a bit of a stretch, since salmonberries were usually flavorless, but anything tasted better than those snowberries she accidentally ate, which made her dizzy for hours on end.
Koneko straightened suddenly. The sounds of wretching and gagging were close by; but she had never heard an animal make those sounds. Koneko was in alert mode, flattening herself against the fern-covered ground, attempting to decipher whatever the hell was out there. C'mon, Sabor-doll, help me out hereee~ Koneko thought warily.
She did not move until the sounds of sickness passed; only then did Koneko peer over the top of the salmonberry bush. Oh...that was different. Instead of an animal, a teenage girl was standing against a tree, muttering something bad-temperedly in another language. Sabor padded over to Koneko's side now, growling in his deep way. "Oh, cut it out, Sabor, it's about time I see someone like myself around here..." Koneko growled in punishment.
Koneko now stood up, feeling awkward from the crouching position she used to gorge herself on the salmonberries. "Oi, Sabor, look at that, we DID find a lovie~" Koneko said in her sing-song voice. "'Ello, madam, at least, please tell me you are human?" After all, she had already seen someone she thought to be a human and it turned out to be the top half of a pissed centuar. She had to do some running after that little incident.

Jakket paused for a moment in her place as she thought she heard something growl. It stopped in moments after it had started and now she felt as if she must just be hearing things. Then perhaps two minutes after wards something popped through a bush and spoke -- it spoke English. Jakket didn't believe it at first; A human? Is it possible there is more of us? She felt all of this was very unlikely and that she must just be hallucinating, after all she did feel a bit dizzy. It startled her that the person talked in a sing-song voice, at least at first. It made her head throb and the world around her seemed to spin.
"Oye... What?" Jakket asked as she tried to focus her thoughts on what was being said. Then it came to her; Are you human? Jakket couldn't help but think that this person was crazy. "Are you human?" Jakket asked in a snarl. She felt irritable and angry at the world. She also felt like she might fall on her ass if the world didn't stop spinning. Finally Jakket gave in and let herself fall to the ground with a loud thud and then a groan. She grabbed her head and looked over to the girl who spinned and then slowly came to a stop. She was very pretty; her looks overly alluring. Jakket thought she saw something else but she couldn't quite tell what.
"What is that?" She said trying to motion towards Sabor. Jakket really wasn't trying to be rude at this point, she just couldn't get a good look at him. Jakket slowly began to focus herself and began to feel a little better. The world stopped its frantic spinning but her head still throbbed immensely.

How delightful~! Koneko thought pleasantly. As far as she knew, the other was indeed a human, albeit an irritable one. except, it appears that everyone is bad tempered in this world~ Oh well, at least none of them are like the people back home~ Koneko had already received her share of bad company back in Alaska and did not seem affected by the currently temperamental girl. Obviously she'd had some trouble...but unlike Koneko, she didn't exactly seem surprised by another human's presence. Either she was far more sane than Koneko was herself, or she knew other humans in this strange world. Both answers were acceptable and insane in their own ways.
"Oh, yes, misses, I'm indeed a human~ A strange one at that, but yes, a human." Koneko waited patiently as the girl became dizzy, probably a side effect from poisonous berries. Ehh, I've been there, too.... Koneko thought with a sigh, remembering the snowberry incident. Even Sabor had avoided her out of fright as Koneko walked in tight circles for hours, the whole world spinning, yet she refused to sit down.
Koneko stared in confusion when the girl pointed at Sabor and asked what he was. "Oh, you mean Sabor-kun?" Koneko answered, smiling pleasantly. "He is my sonkun, we've been travelling together for a little while...or are you asking what he is~? Yes, yes, he's a wolf..."[/color]
