Everything was dark. It was an eerie dark. Not even the stars lightening it up. It was something the girl had never experienced, and Ruu did not know whether she should like it or not. She blinked her eyes a few times, trying to rid herself of the suffocating darkness. Her attempt proved to be to no prevail, and she sighed in frustration. Ruu tried to lift herself into a sitting postion, only to realize she was laying flat on her face. She flipped herself over, frustrated enough already. Well, at least there were stars now. Where was she? What was going on? Hadn't she just been home? Now she seemed to be sitting in some, meadow. Yes, that's what it was. Flowers blossomed in the night air around her, the air smelled perfectly clean, and it was silent. Completely silent.
Ruu leapt into a standing stance. Her hand already in her pocket, digging out the penknife she caried with her everywhere. She hastily flipped it open, nearly dropping it in the process. "Hello!" she screamed. She spun around in place, looking for her assumed captor. She must have been kidnapped. What else could have happened, anyway? Magic wasn't real. It was a part of the fairytales her mother had once told her. Not real. Make-believe. She ran a hand through her hair, exasperated, and lost. Lost for words, lost for thoughts, and just plain lost. What was she to do now? She couldn't just sit there screaming. It would definetly not help her to attract the wrong kind of person. She looked around once more, deciding it was better not to just sit there, waiting for her captor to come back and do whatever they were planning to do. She took off running.
She felt her backpack bang up and down on her back as she ran, the contents of it jumping up and down. She didn't care if her wallet spilled change all in it. What did money matter now, anyway? Unless they wanted ransom. But she seriously doubted they would be satisfied with meger quarters and dimes. She thought about the multitude of hairdye she always carried with her. Every color she loved was in there, including some hair bleach. Ruu was always changing her hair, never liking to stay the same for to long. There was also a book of matches inside. She hoped none would catch fire inside her pack. That's just what she needed at that moment, a ball of flames on her back. There also happened to be highly flamible hairspray in there, only on a side pocket. She was thankful the beloved black backpack had many pockets. Other random objects would be in there too. Pencils, snacks, crumbled up pieces of paper. What any seventeen-year-old would carry. Not that Ruu was normal...
Ruu's pace gradually slowed. Sweat beaded on her neck and forehead. She had been running for who knows how long, and she had come across nothing but fields. Where in the world was she? She placed her hands on her knees, hair falling in her face. "Mother fucker..." she said between pants. She guessed her kidnapper was far behind her by now, and decided to sit among the grasses. Everything smelled so perfect a good. I must be far from home. Ruu thought. She watched th horizon for a little while. Soon, it grew orange, yellow, and pink as the sun rose smoothly into the sky. Yep, definetly far...
