PERSONALITY:If Ella were a witch in the Harry Potter universe, her patronous would be a golden retriever, for a number of reasons. She is an absolute ball of energy, never seeming to shut off for anything. Even if she is tired, she tries her absolute best not to show it for the sake of others around her. She tries her best to make others as happy as she can, but she knows that she can't help everyone and not everyone wants her help. Typically, she knows when to back off of people when she has annoyed them, but that's not something she tries to do at all. She is the epitome of childish, being afraid of what lurks in the dark, of monsters, and constantly asking questions. She is always looking to learn more and more, even if the information she ends up obtaining isn't entirely useful. She is incredibly trusting as well, almost to the point of it being dangerous. She doesn't see why people have a reason to lie to her, usually, and would just accept what they say as fact, though she's trying to stop doing that by doing more research. This doesn't mean she's unintelligent, though, just a bit naive of the ways of the cruel world.
Ella has been given a good lot in life and she is extremely aware of it, thus she tries to give others the best she can give them during her every day life. She tries not to be mean to people, even if they're mean to her, because she realizes that they're just hurting other people because they themselves are hurting. She volunteers to help out at the soup kitchen as often as she can and she spends a lot of time helping out at her church, but she realizes that just doing good things doesn't make you a good person, which is why her family are the only people she talks about that sort of thing with. Bragging about doing these things is entirely unnecessary. However, just because she tries to be a good person, doesn't mean she is one twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. When she's alone, she vents her emotions in any way she can find which usually means writing her feelings in a journal. She's not an unhappy child by any stretch of the imagination, but she doesn't let others know about her hardships or her worries because she doesn't want to be a burden. Another vice of hers is when someone is being bullied, she tends to get a bit snappy. She avoids insults, if she can help it, but her tone is pretty nasty.

YOU GOT A FAST CAR, WE LEAVE TONIGHT
MAYBE IT’S FAST ENOUGH SO WE CAN FLY AWAY
MAYBE IT’S FAST ENOUGH SO WE CAN FLY AWAY
[/blockquote]parents:Laura Grace Bateman | 49 | living
Guy Arlie Bateman | 50 | living
secrets and fears:Ella has an intense fear of being snatched away in the night by a monster, human or unhuman because when she was eight, her parents had left her home alone while they went out and a man broke in. He didn't find her because she hid underneath the bathroom sink, but the fear has stuck with her to this day.
HISTORY:Born to Laura and Guy Bateman, Ella never had to wonder if she was loved. From day one, she was always enveloped in it, supported in every endeavor she undertook, and given a sympathetic ear if she needed it. That’s not to say she got everything she wanted – she didn’t. Her parents wouldn’t be able to afford that, but she had more than enough, in her opinion. They lived in a relatively nice suburb, nestled right outside of Atlanta, and she had friends in the neighborhood she could play with whenever her imaginary friends weren’t enough for her. However, her growing up wasn’t all love and sunshine; she had a speech impediment, one that prevented her from speaking her ‘r’s correctly, and once she got into school, she was teased relentlessly for it. Her parents remedied it by putting her in speech therapy and it was a success, but it sometimes still rears its ugly head.
She was eight when something that changed the course of her life came about. Her parents felt that she would be able to handle being on her own, at least for an hour. What bad could happen, right? Ella was sitting in her room, playing, when she heard a window smash and feet slam to the ground. Instantly, her worst fears were letting out and she ran into the adjoining bathroom and hid in the cabinet underneath the sink, praying that they wouldn’t come looking in here for things. When her parents got home, she couldn’t bring herself to come out of the hiding spot and her mother found her with tears in her eyes, shaking like a leaf. Even today, it’s something that haunts her.
Ella able to go through school relatively undetected by bullies and found herself with a nice group of friends who she met at church. Though she had that traumatic event, she’s still very outgoing and chipper, hoping to brighten the day of everyone she meets.

ROLEPLAY SAMPLE:He mentioned her coming along with him to get a dog and she just nodded, excited for the day that it came time to go through and look at all of the dogs. The fact that he wanted her there, though, made her feel warm and fuzzy on the inside, like her opinion actually mattered to someone. Once he mentioned his little brother, though, she gasped. ”Oh, I bet he’s absolutely adowable!” There was just something about kids that made her excited about life – perhaps it was the fact that they never made fun of the way she spoke after she explained things to them, or the fact that there was no failure with them, only a second chance to get things right. The cuteness and the sassiness were all just bonuses. Once he corrected her, she laughed and shook her head. ”Fwankie and I always say something else because you weally shouldn’t hope to die. He always says ‘cwoss my heawt and hope to fly’, but I don’t wanna steal his stuff.” Something about copying Frankie all the time really bothered her, so she tried her hardest not to do it and be the annoying little sister that everyone seemed to have.
While lying on her stomach, she watched Tyce with a small grin on her face, noticing him putting his arm in between the two of them. What was this supposed to mean? Was this a sign? Was she supposed to do something now? Did he want her to do anything?Calming her mind, she stretched her arms out in front of her and yawned, bringing them back down, but putting one of them right next to his. Now they were touching and she wasn’t certain if he’d pull away or what, but she liked it. The heat of his body was radiating outward and it was almost electric to her. This was something extremely foreign and Ella hadn’t been put in this situation many times before. Sure, she had liked boys – quite a few – but they had always been little schoolgirl crushes and she was over them pretty quickly. However, this felt different. She felt something in the pit of her stomach, perhaps excitement, when she and Tyce touched. What was this supposed to mean, if anything?
Once he asked about her dogs, she felt her mind clear. ”I have five. Thewe’s Laws, Yoguwt, Littlefoot, Dowa, Cinnimon.” She nodded decisively before continuing. ”Two of them belong to my aunt Luella, but we shawe the love.” Family was a huge thing with the Constantines and she loved every single one of her family members, even mean old Nono and it showed when she was asked to speak about them. There were so many stories she could tell people about her family, though most of them revolved around some sort of dinner. ”So a big fluffy dog! They’ll be cute, I bet. They say that sometimes, dogs look like the people who own them, so, maybe if it’s not the cutest wight when you get it, it will be after a while.” After the words left her mouth, she internally berated herself; what a stupid thing to say! You really ought to never do this kind of thing, Ella, it’s just a disaster.
He mentioned getting her a free drink and she put her hand on top his quickly. ”Oh, you don’t have to do that. It’s vewy nice of you, though.” Ella made eye contact with him, and it was pretty intense for her, though she wasn’t entirely certain why. ”But I’ll definitely come and visit you, if you want me to.” Momentarily, she looked down at their hands and noticed how much bigger his was than hers. She was a pretty small girl, that much was certain, but it still kind of amazed her and, in some strange way, made her feel safe. There was just something about being with someone who was bigger than you that could do that to her. Her eyes wandered back up to him and she smiled sheepishly, letting her hand slowly drop back down to where it was, her arm still touching his.
”You guys got any baked goods at that stowe? Like muffins ow something? Because, if not, I could make you something…..only if you want, ya know.” She enjoyed baking a great deal and often had cakes and cupcakes and muffins laying around her dormitory from her weekend trip home for her friends to snack on whenever they wanted. But she hadn’t the foggiest idea what Tyce would like – chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, what? Did he like frosting, or didn’t he? Of course she wasn’t going to overload him with questions like that now, not when she was trying to be a cool customer and not when she had asked him a thousand questions about his hypothetical dog. ”We could make an aftewnoon-into-evening of it.” Luckily, she stopped herself before she referred to it as a date, because that wasn’t what it was. It was a friend-teaching-friend to surf with food and a drink involved.
Ella found herself scooting the tiniest bit closer to Tyce, but she was still on her own towel. This day had turned out to be one of the better days she has had in a long while, and enduring a sort of creepy man on the bus was entirely worth it.
